Platinum Recognition State Presentation
Palm Elementary School Receives PBIS Platinum Level Recognition and was Invited to Present at a State Level Event!
Palm Elementary School received Platinum level recognition from the California PBIS Coalition and had the honor of presenting at the 7th annual California PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) conference in Sacramento! Palm School SEL (Social Emotional Learning) team presented to a full capacity crowd. The team consisted of our Principal Yovana Castillo, Learning Director Sandy Cerda, Social Worker Luz Palacios, Counselor Kimberly Veracruz, and District Safety PBIS Coordinator Javier Gomez and Director of Special Services Antonio Quintanilla. The presentation focused on how to create a SEL community that provides students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in school and build a collaborative learning environment for all. Part of the PBIS success at Palm School is student, staff, and community buy-in. To get student buyin, Palm school has implemented the school wide use of Classdojo. Students are receiving positive reinforcement in their classrooms, and all over campus with Classdojo. Every trimester, students visit the PBIS Classdojo store where they cash in their points for various levels of fun items. Students also earn PBIS tickets around campus for showing PRIDE, which they can trade in for prizes. There are monthly lunch recognitions for students chosen by teachers for demonstrating PRIDE. Teacher buy-in begins with our Why. At the beginning of the school year staff meeting, the SEL team shared the vision of PBIS at Palm. Teachers learned about the expectations for students, Classdojo, and how to report behaviors using SWIS (School Wide Intervention System). Teachers feel supported by the SEL team because of the structure of PBIS at Palm. Another part of our success is families are included in the process. Surveys go out every year to get feedback about the environment at school. Monthly parent meetings are held to share the importance of education and social-emotional health. Parenting Partners is a program to get parents involved and provide guidance on how to better support their students. Parent communication plays an important role in the relationship between families and schools. Classdojo, Seesaw, and Parentsquare are platforms that are used to allow families to communicate effectively with teachers. Parents, download the app now to stay involved with your student's PBIS program. It was a tremendous honor to share our PBIS journey with other teams throughout California!
