Golden Valley Elementary Recognized as a 2025 California Distinguished School
Orosi, CA — State Superintendent Tony Thurmond has announced that Golden Valley Elementary School in the Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District has been selected as one of the 2025 California Distinguished Schools. This prestigious recognition celebrates schools that demonstrate exceptional educational quality and equity.
The California Distinguished Schools Program, established in 1985, honors schools that exhibit remarkable achievements in two distinct categories: Closing the Achievement Gap and Exceptional Student Performance.
"Words cannot express the pride that I feel in my heart for this state recognition," said Melissa Delgadillo, Principal of Golden Valley Elementary. "Our teachers and staff all work tirelessly to provide excellent instruction and support in and out of the classroom, and our students are demonstrating their understanding at high levels. A focus we have is ensuring that we have a school culture and climate where students feel connected and supported in their learning. This recognition is a testament to everyone's hard work. It's definitely a great time to be a Lion as we make magic happen every day, and it is now recognized at the state level."
Yolanda Valdez, Superintendent of Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, added, "Golden Valley Elementary's recognition as a 2025 California Distinguished School is a reflection of the dedication, love, and commitment of our staff, students, and families. This honor celebrates not just academic excellence, but a deeply rooted culture of care, inclusivity, and high expectations. I am so proud of Principal Delgadillo and all the Golden Valley team for showing what's possible when an entire school team believes in every student and all efforts are focused on student success."
The California Department of Education's selection process for Distinguished Schools involves a rigorous analysis of multiple performance indicators, including academic achievement, chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, and socioeconomic data. Schools that demonstrate exceptional progress in narrowing performance gaps among student groups are prioritized for recognition.
Golden Valley Elementary will be formally honored at an awards ceremony held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim on May 30, 2025, alongside other distinguished schools from across California.
